For over 30 years - all across the globe; the church, volunteers, staff and local supporters have dedicated their time, talent and treasures to help transform the lives of vulnerable children across the globe and more recently, here in The Bronx. While RFK Inc. has formally overseen the various summer camp programs, the breadth of the work that has been done through our chapter here locally and around the globe, doesn’t simply fall into this program.
More than at any point in our history, our chapter’s volunteers have provided wraparound services to children in need-- from providing backpacks filled with school supplies, to being a friend and mentor or even providing temporary shelter for a child. While the headquarters has always acknowledged this work, trends around the needs of these children and families have come to the surface and extreme gaps in fulfilling these needs still remain-- providing an incredible opportunity for the organization and our chapter to step in more wholly.
Royal Family KIDS Camp will always remain the cherished and premier program. However, in order to address the systemic issues surrounding the child welfare needs, the organization must evolve.
As of November 2020, Royal Family KIDS, officially became For The Children. This change will allow our chapter and the church community, to expand its work around advocacy, awareness, fostering and adoption, volunteer engagement and more. For The Children continue to serve vulnerable children through our RFK camps and mentoring but are encouraged and eager to place additional focus on the systemic issues facing our children around the globe.
